Wenger looks on during another heavy defeat
Arsene Wenger criticised the commitment of his Arsenal
players and admitted that Everton were the better side in the wake of their
Premier League defeat at Goodison Park.
Everton have moved within a point of the Gunners in the race
for fourth place, and the final Champions League spot, and have a game in hand.
First half goals from Steven Naismith and Romelu Lukaku were
followed by a Mikel Arteta own-goal as Everton won for the sixth league game
running.
Wenger said: “We knew that if we lost this game the race
would be very difficult for us, and we lost in disappointing way.
“We had a lot of possession but were going nowhere, it is a
massive worry to lose a game like that.
“We have to come back with a different attitude, more
personality, and be stronger in the challenges.”
Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard praised the vocal support of
the home fans in a crucial game in the hunt for the top four, but Roberto
Martinez refused to get carried away and focussed on his players.
He said: “It was a real complete performance, we were
perfect from a tactical point of view.
“Every win in the final third of the season is instrumental,
to be able to perform in this manner, facing a top four team, this is a massive
day.”
